The Spencer Tigers controlled a majority of the Lakes Conference volleyball match against rival Spirit Lake Thursday night, sweeping the Indians in three games, 25-17, 25-19, 25-19. Statistically, Spirit Lake was paced by Cara Vale’s seven kills. Freshman Bailey Loveall had two kills and two aces. Paige Krause recorded a team-high twelve assists, while Alissa Christoffer had eleven digs. The Tigers received eight kills from Kirstin Martinsdale and seven more by Christy Wicks, who was also involved in three blocks. Spencer improves to 14-11 overall and 3-2 in the conference. Spirit Lake falls to 12-9 on the year and 2-4 in the Lakes Conference, with a match against top-ranked Western Christian coming up early next week.
Okoboji attempted to end their four-match losing streak in the Siouxland Conference, but fell last night to Rock Valley in five games, 16-25, 25-11, 25-14, 24-26, 15-11. Mikkinzie Peschong tallied thirteen kills and six blocks. Taylor Poppema had eleven assists and thirteen digs. Aubry Kolegraff notched a team-high 25 assists, and Bryanna Wittrock finished with a double-double of eleven kills and 23 digs, to go along with a pair of service aces. The Pioneers are now 9-16 overall and 1-6 in league play.
Harris-Lake Park enjoyed another successful night on the volleyball courts, securing another Cornbelt Conference match win, taking down Corwith-Wesley-Luverne in straight sets, 25-10, 25-14, 25-14. The Lady Wolves were paced by Lydia Brandt’s eight kills, eight assists, and six aces. Mariah Gath, Leah Duitsman, and Noreen Morrow each had four kills, and Macy Gunderson finished with ten set assists and four service aces. HLP is currently 21-7 on the year and 8-1 in the league.
Graettinger-Terril participated in a triangular with Cornbelt foes Armstrong-Ringsted and WCLT. The Knights defeated the Mustangs in three games, 25-11, 25-18, 25-22, but dropped all three sets to WCLT, 25-11, 25-21, 25-19. On the night, senior Nikki Brown had 29 kills and ten digs. Lindsay Flaharty registered 32 assists, eleven digs and four aces.
Other scores included Western Christian taking a dominating three-set win over Emmetsburg, 25-12, 25-5, 25-4, and Ruthven-Ayrshire winning in three-games over Twin River Valley 25-21, 25-21, 25-19, while also dropping a match in three to Ventura, 25-18, 25-20, 25-23.
North of the border, it was all three-set sweeps as Jackson County Central defeated Pipestone, Fairmont took down Waseca, Martin County West won over Nicollet, and Round Lake-Brewster beat Edgerton.
