Wolves Win Again, Indians, Pioneers Take Losses (Volleyball RoundUp for Sept. 28)

Harris-Lake Park’s red hot volleyball team pulled out another Cornbelt Conference victory in dramatic fashion Tuesday night, defeating Clay Central-Everly in a three game sweep, 25-22, 25-23, 30-28. Coach Daryl Meyer called the clutch victory a “statement win” for his ballclub. Lydia Brandt put together a triple-double of thirteen kills, eleven digs and ten assists. Mariah Gath also enjoyed a big night, with thirteen digs, six kills and three aces. Noreen Morrow had seven kills, Macy Gunderson 16 set assists, and Sam Brueggeman 17 digs. The Lady Wolves are now 5-1 in league play and 15-7 overall.

Spirit Lake was in a hotly contest Lakes Conference match last night with Estherville-Lincoln Central, but came out on the losing end of a five-game match, 25-23, 12-25, 25-22, 15-25, 15-13. Kendra Stokke and Alexa Rodawig both tallied eight kills, with Rodawig also securing three blocks. Cara Vale had four kills and three blocks, and Whitney Berkland 25 assists and 20 digs for the Indians. ELC was paced by Allie and and Casey Sievert, who combined for 15 kills and three blocks. Alyssa Johnson finished with six kills and five service aces. Spirit Lake is now 2-2 in the Lakes Conference and 12-7 on the year.

The Okoboji Pioneers recent woes on the volleyball court pushed on Tuesday, as they dropped a Siouxland Conference match in three games to West Lyon, 25-23, 25-20, 25-15. Mikkinzie Peschong led the charge with eight kills. Paisley Jones had five kills and three blocks. Aubry Kolegraff had a team-high 19 assists and Mary Eckard reached 14 digs. Okoboji drops to 9-13 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

Elsewhere last night, Spencer dropped a lopsided contest to top-ranked Western Christian in three games, 25-8, 25-8, 25-10, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn was also thumped, falling to Unity Christian, 25-8, 25-8, 25-2, Class 1A power North Sentral Kossuth swept Graettinger-Terril, 25-17, 25-15, 25-16, and Ventura.

North of the border, Martin County West defeated St. Clair in a sweep, 25-10, 25-19, 25-19, Fairmont suffered a three-game setback to New Ulm, 25-19, 25-20, 25-20, and Ellsworth took down Round Lake-Brewster, 17-25, 25-13, 25-23, 25-17.
