What might have been their biggest win of the season ended in yet another narrow loss Friday night as Spirit Lake fell 53-50 at Emmetsburg in Lakes Conference boys basketball. The Indians led for a majority of the game until the E-Hawks rallied in the fourth quarter, coming up with a defensive stop in the final eight seconds to get the win. Paul Brown, who hit two buzzer beating shots in the game, finished with 17 points for Spirit Lake. He connected on three three-pointers. Nick Wuebker led all scorers with 20 points, as Emmetsburg improves to 6-1 in league play. Spirit Lake falls to 3-4 in conference and 4-7 overall, with a rivalry game tonight at Okoboji. That game can be heard live on KUOO Campus Radio.
Defensive stops were hard to come by Friday night in Sioux Center as Okoboji dropped a 74-39 Siouxland Conference game to the Warriors. Brian Dubois notched thirteen points in the losing effort, while Keith Oskvig had ten. The Pioneers are currently 0-8 in the league and will return home 1-9 to face the rival Spirit Lake Indians tonight on KUOO Campus Radio.
Harris-Lake Park remains locked in atop the Cornbelt Conference standings at 6-1 after last night’s 71-33 win at Twin River Valley. The Wolves are 9-2 overall.
