Harris-Lake Park softball split a doubleheader with West Bend-Mallard on Friday. The Wolves took game one 4-3, led by Lydia Brandt’s 3-for-3 effort at the plate with a home run. Emily Anderson pitched in with a three-RBI double and Macy Gunderson earned the win holding the Wolverines to six hits and striking out three. The nightcap went to West Bend-Mallard with a lopsided 16-5 score. The Wolves received two hits from Mariah Gath, a hit and two runs driven in from Lydia Brandt and a 2-for-4 game hitting by Miranda Brueggeman. HLP is now 2-9 on the season and 1-4 in the Cornbelt Conference.
The Okoboji Pioneers were unable to pull out a road conference win against MOC-Floyd Valley on Friday, dropping a close 8-7 ballgame. Brianna Wittrock was a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, Mikkinzie Peschong drove in three runs with one hit on the night, while Abby Taylor and Mary Eckard each had two hits and two runs scored. Peschong also struck out four and allowed just one earned run in the pitcher’s circle. The Pioneers, which have lost five of their last seven games, drop to 7-6 overall and 2-3 in the Siouxland.
Emmetsburg stayed perfect in Lakes Conference play by downing Western Christian 7-0. Faith Schmidt dominated from the circle with 15 strikeouts and two hits allowed. She also hit a two-run homer. Four other players notched multi-hit games, with Hillary Pico also driving in a pair. The E-Hawks are 5-0 in the Lakes and 10-1 on the year.
The Spencer softball team went 1-1 at the LeMars Tournament on Friday. The Tigers defeated Sioux City West 6-5, but fell 8-6 against Hinton.
