Wolves Fall to Generals in 7th, While Indians Come Up Short (Softball RoundUp)

Sibley-Ocheyedan won a dramatic non-conference softball game over Harris-Lake Park on Wednesday, as the Generals earned a 3-2 victory in walkoff fashion. Pre-freshman Tayler Wasmunch doubled down the left field line to drive in the game’s winning run with the game tied and two outs in the bottom of the seventh. She finished the game 2-for-4, accounting for half of Sibley-Ocheyedan’s hits. Jurnea Harberts was the winning pitcher with five hits allowed and two strikeouts. Macy Gunderson took the loss despite surrendering just four hits and one earned run. Lydia Brandt sparked the Wolves offense with two doubles, a run driven in and another scored. The two teams combined for eleven errors in the game. The loss drops HLP to 8-19 overall, while Sibley-Ocheyedan improves to 5-12.

Spirit Lake had the game’s tying run 60-feet from home Wednesday night, but could not find the magic to drive the runner in as the Indians went down 5-4 at LeMars. Alli Gerking, Paige Krause, and Emily Mercer all had multi-hit nights, with Krause driving in a pair of runs. Cara Vale also brought home two on a 1-for-3 effort. Krause suffered the loss allowing three earned runs on five hits in four innings of work. The Indians are 5-6 in the Lakes Conference and 18-11 this summer. They host Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley on Thursday for Parents’ Night.

Also in the Lakes Conference, Emmetsburg squeaked by Western Christian by a 3-2 margin to remain in the hunt for a league title at 9-2. The E-Hawks, who are 22-6 on the year, welcome in Spirit Lake on Thursday. And Estherville-Lincoln Central stayed ahead of Emmetsburg by a game in the standings with an 8-1 victory over Spencer. The Midgets are 9-1, while the Tigers fall to 4-6.
