Tuesday was Senior Night at Spirit Lake High School and the Western Christian Wolfpack spoiled the festivities. HWC used runs of 10-0 and 13-2 to take leads and hold off the Indians for a 48-39 win. Indians shot just 4-21 from 3-point range with freshman KJ Veldman leading the scoring effort with 12. Seniors Sam Spies, Mary Brown, Caila Jones, Regan Sieperda, and the injured Chelsie Stettnichs were all honored at halftime of the boys’ game as they took the home floor for a final time during the regular season. Spirit Lake (15-5, 9-4 Lakes Conference) will play one more home game as the Indians host their first round regional contest next week.
BOYS
It certainly was not a favorable draw for Spirit Lake as the 5th-ranked team in Class 2A came to visit on Senior Night. #5 Hull Western Christian jumped out to a 12-0 lead and never looked back from there. Thirteen players scored for HWC as Western Christian defeated Spirit Lake 77-38. Before the contest, Drew Dau, Kyle Heidebrink, and Jmychal Grau, who made his first varsity start, were recognized for their efforts during their four-year Spirit Lake run.
