Harris-Lake Park let a late lead slip away against West Lyon on
Friday in Lake Park. The Wolves owned a 4-3 advantage
entering the seventh, but surrendered two unearned runs for a 5-4 loss. The
loss falls on reliever Connor Gunderson, who pitched the final inning and
allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out two. Colin Brons started the game,
going six innings and giving up just one earned run on four hits with nine
strikeouts. Brons also led HLP at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run
scored. Ryan Mann drove in a pair of runs on one hit. The setback closes out a
seven-game win streak, leaving Harris-Lake
Park with a record of
7-4. The Wolves get back at it Monday with a Cornbelt Conference doubleheader
at home against CWL.
Okoboji fell behind early, trailing 9-1 after three innings
of their Siouxland Conference game at George-Little Rock on Friday. The
Pioneers eventually fell by final of 13-5, and were outhit 12-7. The Mustangs
improve to 2-6 in the conference, while Okoboji, which was coming off
back-to-back nights of rain outs, drops to 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the league
play. The Pioneers travel to West Lyon on
Monday for another league showdown.
Some late-game heroics provided Estherville-Lincoln Central
with a road win over Sheldon on Friday. The Midgets, who trailed by seven
early, battled back to within a 7-6 margin entering the seventh inning. Then,
with the bases loaded, Adam Reiter tied the game on a sacrifice fly, and two
batters later, a walk to Tyler Swanson forced in the game’s winning run for an
8-7 decision. Swanson took a no-decision as the starter, while Joe Clayton got
the win, pitching a clean seventh. Clayton, Reiter, and Matt Burrell each had
two hits in the game, as ELC improves to 5-9 overall. The Midgets will play in
the North Union Tournament on Saturday, which also includes Spirit Lake
and Clay Central-Everly.
