The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has named it’s All-District Teams, and two Lakes area guards made the cut. Spirit Lake sophomore KJ Veldman earned all-district accolades in Class 3A. The shooting guard was fourth in the state in scoring with a 21.2 average. She also led the Indians in rebounds and steals, and was second in assists. Harris-Lake Park senior Anna Brandt received the honor in Class 1A. The point guard was second in the Cornbelt Conference with a 15.7 scoring average. She also led the Lady Wolves in assists and steals.
Also grabbing all-district recognition in Class 1A is Whitney Vandermaten of Boyden-Hull, Jessah Fielder of George-Little Rock, and Lexi Ackerman from Central Lyon. In Class 2A, Kayla Gessink and Brooke Wolterstorff of Western Christian, and Katelyn Kragt of Sioux Center were honored. The Class 3A list featured Alexis Conaway and Becca DeHaan from MOC-Floyd Valley, as well as their head coach, Mark Gunderson, who was named coach of the year for the west district.
