On the baseball diamond, Spirit Lake secured their second straight win to start the 2011 season by defeating George-Little Rock, 6-0. Paul Brown sparked the offense, going 2-for-2 with two runs driven in, while Mitch Peschon limited the Mustangs offense to just two hits in picking up his first win of the season.
Okoboji played host to Laurens-Marathon in their season opener in Milford last night, but suffered a 9-3 setback Zach Jones hit a solo home run in the fifth inning and Ben DeMuth went 2-for-3 with an RBI in his first varsity game. Dalton Syverson threw three innings, allowing four runs on three hits, though he did strike out seven batters. Brian Dubois also struggled in relief, surrendering four earned runs on six hits over three innings. He struck out five.
