Don’t forget to go to exploreokoboji.com to vote for this
week’s Central Bank and Insurance Athlete of the Week. This week’s candidates are Kirstin
Martindale, from the Spencer Girls’ basketball team; Noah Bouse, from the Okoboji Wrestling team; and
Alissa Christoffer, from the Spirit Lake Girls’ Basketball team.
During the holidays, we fell a week behind on our Central
Bank and Insurance Athlete of the Week announcements.
So, in order to get caught up, we have two athletes of the
week, this week.
The first is Kirstin Martindale, a 5’11 junior from the Spencer
girls’ basketball team, who leads the Tigers, this season, in scoring, rebounds
and blocked shots. She averages just
under 12 points per game, just over 8 ½ rebounds per game, and slightly more
than two blocks per game.
Our second winner is Kade Heikens, a senior on the Harris-Lake Park boys’ basketball team.
He was nominated after scoring 16 points, as the Wolves
opened the 2013 portion of their schedule, with a win over George-Little Rock.
For the season, he’s averaging just over 6.5 points and 6.5
assists per game. He also averages about
two-and-a-half rebounds and just over two steals per game.
The Wolves are 14-1, this season, and are home, tomorrow,
against North Union.
It will be Coaches vs. Cancer, and Pink Out Night, at
HLP. Boosters will be holding a silent
auction, starting at 4 p.m. in the High School Commons. All proceeds go to the fight against cancer.
