* The Emmetsburg E’Hawks pulled out a 49-47 win over Garner-Hayfield on Wednesday night in the 2A District-3 Finals to earn a shot at the substate game. * Class 1A: Ruthven-Ayrshire fell to Laurens-Marathon at Spencer 38-35.
* Bishop Garrigan Algona defeated Armstrong-Ringsted 48-38.
* A wild one on the girls side at Cherokee as Spencer and Storm Lake fought for a berth in next week’s state quarterfinals. Storm Lake led by 14 early in the third, the Tigers would fight back to within three in the fourth. But Storm Lake held off the late run and knocked off Spencer for the third time, this one by the closest margin of the season, 44-42 to secure a spot in the state tourney. The Tornadoes will battle Algona in the round of eight next Tuesday in Des Moines.
