It’s the second year
in a row that the Indians have advanced to the State semi-finals and
quarterback Paul Brown says last Friday’s road win over top-ranked, undefeated
Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley ranks high on his list.

Brown says it was a great win

Brown connected with
Cody Poock, on a 17-tard touchdown pass to give the Indians a 21-17 lead, with
44 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

That touchdown
capped an 84-yard drive, which consumed over seven minutes in the fourth
quarter, where the Indians had to overcome a few negative setbacks which
included losses of yardage and penalties.

That’s wide receiver
Casey Spaeth, who caught multiple clutch passes during that fourth quarter
drive, and also registered two interceptions, including one on the final play
of the game, to seal the victory.

In celebration of
the Indians’ success on the football field, this Fall; along with Will Norris’
Class 2A State Cross Country Championship, where both the Spirit Lake Boys and
Girls’ teams competed; not to mention sophomore Taylor Sieperda’s success,
finishing 2nd and third and state, with the Spencer-Spirit Lake Swim
team , there will be a Business Spirit Competition, with judging taking place
this Thursday.

Area business are
encouraged to decorate their windows or store fronts with window paint, window
displays, or lawn displays, and competitors will be judges in the following
categories: Best Window Display, Best Outdoor Display, Most School Spirit, and
Best of Show (Inside and Out).

Judging will take
place at 10 a.m., on Thursday, and winners will be determined by judges and
community members who will vote at Okoboji Motors, this Thursday afternoon, from
noon to 6, during state football t-shirt sales.

The t-shirts will be
“Back To The Dome” Spirit Lake Football T-Shirts.  They are $10 each, and all proceeds will go
toward team travel expenses.  Yard Signs
and Car Flags will also be on sale.
