Trailing by just five at the end of the 3rd quarter, the Spirit Lake Indians were outscored 19-5 in the 4th and the 3A-#10 Storm Lake Tornadoes moved to 11-0 in the Lakes Conference, defeating Spirit Lake 65-46 on Tuesday night. The Indians shot just 33% from the floor, including 7-25 from 3-point range while the Tornadoes posted a 49% clip from the field. Freshman KJ Veldman, the Indians’ leading scorer, sat out with the flu. Spirit Lake (14-4, 8-3 Lakes Conference) is now 3.0 games back of Storm Lake with three games to play.

Spirit Lake put three players in double figures, outrebounded an opponent for the first time this year, and shot 45% from the field but it still wasn’t enough as Storm Lake came away with a 62-56 win on Tuesday night. The Indians went plus-9 on the boards and plus-9 at the foul line but the Tornadoes knocked down five more threes en route to the win. Spirit Lake (1-9, Lakes Conference) gets set for a Friday contest at Cherokee.
