Several of the area’s top wrestlers from this past winter will be competing once again this evening to cap their already successful senior seasons. The Northwest Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association is hosting the 4th Annual Senior All-Star Meet in Cherokee. The event will feature better than 30 competitors. Spirit Lake Park will be represented by Isaac Lundgren and Dylan Bryce. Okoboji’s Zach Jones and Tanner Taylor will compete, along with Tyler Dalen and Trent Lundgren from Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire. Also slated to grapple in the event is Emmetsburg’s Justin Studer, Jack Randall of Spencer, Brett Flynn from Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, and Gable Bonner of Estherville-Lincoln Central.
The Association will also honor a number of other area contributors to the sport of wrestling. Former Graettinger coach Doug Hoffman will serve as an honorary coach. Iowa Wrestling Hall of Famer and former Emmetsburg star Rich Stillman will serve as the honorary tournament director. Meanwhile, Spencer coach David Schaefer will be recognized as the Class 3A District Coach of the Year.
The Senior All-Star Wrestling Meet begins at 6:30pm and admission is $5 for adults.
