The boys high school golf championships were held over the weekend with Spencer and Emmetsburg both competing. The Tigers finished the two-day event fifth overall in Class 3A, shooting back-to-back 324 daily totals for a 648 final tally at Ames Golf and Country Club. Junior John Labernik led the way with a 157 two-day total, a stroke better than senior teammate Jay Monahan at 158. Both finished in the top-20. Senior Zach Carlson came in with a 161 and junior Sam DeLoss rounded out the counted scores with a 172. Clear Lake won the team title, with senior Brent Tarr taking the individual crown in a playoff.
In Class 2A, Emmetsburg wound up in eighth place overall, registering a 690 two-day total. The E-Hawks, who improved by twelve strokes on day two at Spring Valley Golf Course, were paced by freshman Mike Pugh’s 166 score. Senior Ben McCain carded a 171, while fellow senior Arthur Heldt came in with a 177 and Tyler Clasing a 183. The team title went to Carroll Kuemper Catholic and Adam Squires of Waterloo Columbus Catholic took the individual crown.
