Okoboji kicked started their summer with an 8-3 road win
over Laurens-Marathon on Tuesday. Dalton Syverson had the night’s biggest
performance, picking up the win after striking out nine batters and allowing
three, unearned runs on five hits. He also helped his own cause at the plate,
as the junior tallied two hits, scored twice, and drove in a run. Wes Burgeson
plated two runs on one hit and Zach Jones scored three of the Pioneers runs.
Okoboji will take a 1-0 record into their home opener Thursday against
conference foe West Lyon.
Spirit
Lake was unable to make
it two straight wins against Siouxland Conference opponents to start the
season, falling at George-Little Rock by a 7-5 margin. The Indians are 1-1 to
start the year and will take on a third consecutive Siouxland school Wednesday
when Sheldon arrives for Spirit
Lake’s home opener.

Spencer lost for the first time in 2012, as the Tigers were
up-ended by Denison-Schleswig, 10-6.
Estherville-Lincoln Central rallied late to tie their
contest with North Union at three, however,
