The Iowa girls’ state swimming and diving championships will have a few participants from the Iowa Great Lakes. The Spencer/Spirit Lake co-op team had five girls qualify, highlighted by Spirit Lake’s Taylor Sieperda. The freshman won the 50-yard freestyle at the Ft. Dodge regional in a time of 24.07-seconds, while also grabbing a runner-up finish in the 100-yard freestyle in 53.29. Sieperda then swam anchor for the 200-yard freestyle relay, which qualified with a fourth-place time of 1:43.68. That relay also included Spirit Lake freshman Emma Dau.
For her efforts, Sieperda was voted the Regional Swimmer of the Year by the coaches.
The state swimming and diving meet is Friday, November 4 and Saturday, November 5 at the Marshalltown YMCA.
