Spirit Lake took a pair of non-conference basketball games Monday night from Sibley Ocheyedan. In the girls game, the story of the night was turnovers and fouls. The two teams combined for 50 fouls and 52 turnovers. The Indians were still able to pull away late for the 63-50 win behind Bailey Loveall’s 17 points. Carly Ites finished with 12, Emma Dau with 11. Sibley Ocheyedan was paced by Bridget Doeden with 23. Spirit Lake improves to 8-3, the Generals fall to 7-5.
For the boys, Alec Henrickson was hot from the field early, scoring 23 in just the first half as Spirit Lake won 77-64. Henrickson ended the game with 34 on the night, Billy Brown had 19. As a team, the Indians shot 23 of 26 from the free throw line. Sibley Ocheyedan was paced by Devin Vander Veen with 14, 10 of those in the second half. Spirit Lake is now 8-2, the Generals are still winless at 0-10. Next up for Spirit Lake is a road trip to Lemars on Friday. You can hear the games on KUOO.
