Spirit Lake’s Broocks Preparing for Shrine Bowl

Next month, several star athletes will represent their former schools at the 2012 Iowa Shrine Bowl. One of them is Andrew Broocks, a recent graduate from Spirit Lake, will suit up for the North Team at the annual all-star game. The all-state defensive tackle was part of Spirit Lake’s Class 2A runner-up squad from last fall, however, the school’s record holder for tackles for loss and fumble recoveries was still surprised he was chosen to represent Indians football…(comment from Broocks)

The Iowa Shrine Bowl will be played July 21 at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, though the game is just the final highlight to an even greater cause. In order to participate, every athlete and coach involved must raise money…(comment from Broocks)

The game itself has raised more the $2-million dollars since it began in 1973. If you would like to help sponsor Andrew Broocks, or purchase tickets for the game, the Broocks family can be reached at 712-320-2513.

Broocks, who is headed to Morningside this coming fall, will be joined on the North team by Emmetsburg’s Andrew Garrelts and Armstrong-Ringsted’s Dakota Odermann.
