Spirit Lake senior Whitney Berkland has signed a letter of intent to continue her volleyball career at Northwestern College next fall.
Berkland is a 5’5″ setter who played three years for the Spirit Lake High School volleyball team. Berkland lofted up 516 assists in earning first team all-conference honors as a senior. She served 92-percent, totaling a team-high 59 aces, and averaged 3.1 digs per set. Berkland helped lead her team to the class 3A sub-state final and a 22-7 overall record. She also earned all-conference honors in 2009 (honorable mention) and 2010 (second team).
An academic all-state distinguished award recipient, Berkland plans to major in education at Northwestern. She is the daughter of head coach Rachel Berkland, and husband/assistant coach, Jim.
