Spirit Lake Takes Home Opener, HLP Cut Short by Rain (Baseball RoundUp)

Mother Nature interfered with the baseball season opener for
Harris-Lake Park on Wednesday. The Wolves were
leading 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth at Sibley-Ocheyedan when the rain kicked
in. HLP and the Generals will make up the game at 9am on Saturday, June 23,
prior to the Wolves annual tournament. Harris-Lake
Park is set to host Spirit Lake
for a rivalry matchup tonight on KUOO.

Following two road games to start the season, Spirit Lake
opened the home portion of their schedule Wednesday night against Sheldon. The
Indians manage to snatch-up a one-run victory, defeating the Orabs, 8-7. The
win improves Spirit Lake to 2-1 on the year, with a fourth non-conference
game slated for Thursday at county rival Harris-Lake Park.
Coverage can be heard on KUOO.

Emmetsburg and Algona needed extra innings to decide a
winner. Tied at four entering the eighth, the Bulldogs plated seven runs to
take a commanding lead. The E-Hawks could only respond with a pair of runs and
took an 11-6 loss. Jake Jackson and Aaron Bird each hit home runs for
Emmetsburg, while Ryan Kliegl took the loss despite five strikeouts. The
E-Hawks are 1-1 and play at Laurens-Marathon on Thursday.

In other baseball action, North Union
needed just four innings to defeat Garner-Hayfield, 16-1. Sioux Central
up-ended West Bend-Mallard, 10-5, while South O’Brien notched an 8-7 War Eagle
win over Marcus-Meridan-Cleghorn.
