Lake split a baseball
doubleheader with second-ranked Sioux City Bishop Heelan to close out the regular
season Monday night. The Crusaders took game one, 9-2. Brandon Stoll had two
hits and drove in a run, while Cody Poock went 2-for-3. Zach Herrig suffered
the loss as he struggled to get out of the sixth inning, allowing Bishop Heelan
to score six runs. The nightcap saw the Indians rebound for an 8-3 victory.
Stoll again led the offense with a 3-for-4 effort. Spirit Lake
caps the season at 18-8, and will open the postseason against Spencer in the
first round of the Class 3A Districts on Friday. KUOO will have coverage of the
game from LeMars.
The Tigers continued their regular season schedule Monday,
taking a 7-2 non-conference win over Algona. The game was even at two entering
the seventh when Spencer lit up the scoreboard for five runs. Austin Allen
continued his hot hitting, smashing two solo home runs as part of a 3-for-4
night. Weston Glienke earned the win in relief of Tayler Tatman. The Tigers are
14-12 and have two more games left before the playoffs. They play at MOC-Floyd Valley on Tuesday, and then host
Sergeant Bluff-Luton on Wednesday.
