Spirit Lake Splits Holiday Contests (Basketball RoundUp)

Over the Thanksgiving holiday break, the Spirit Lake girls basketball team played a pair of games at the Waukon Holiday Tournament, and came away with a 1-1 record. In the opener against host Waukon on Friday, the Indians fell for the first time this season in a 66-60 setback. KJ Veldman was 11-of-26 from the field, including four 3-pointers, to finish with a game-high 31 points. The junior also secured ten rebounds for her first double-double of the year. Cara Vale and Whitney Berkland each had nine points.

Spirit Lake concluded the tourney with a 57-47 victory over Cedar Falls. That contest saw three Indians score in double-digits. KJ Veldman again led the way with 21 points, hitting 5-of-8 attempted 3-pointers. She also collected eight steals. Cara Vale poured in 14 points and Alissa Christoffer dropped in three from distance en route to a dozen points. The Indians are 2-1 overall and host border rival Jackson for a girls-boys doubleheader on Saturday, December 3. KUOO will air those games live.
