Spirit Lake Splits Golf Dual at ELC, Okoboji Tops in Siouxland Boys (Updated)

Estherville Lincoln Central and Spirit Lake took to the links Tuesday for a dual meet in golf, and the Midgets snuck past the Indians with a 171 team total, four strokes better than Spirit Lakes’ 175 on the boys side. Matt Weeks of Spirit Lake was the meet medalist with a 37, while ELC’s Max Brashear shot a 39 to finish runner-up. The Spirit Lake girls came away with the win in their portion of the dual, outshooting Estherville Lincoln Central 183-260. SL’s Ashley Nielsen finished with the meet’s lowest score of 41, while teammate Maureen Owens was runner-up at 46. Okoboji finally took down MOC-Floyd Valley in the Siouxland Conference. The Pioneers 153 team total was the lowest by six shots at the conference tour meet hosted by Central Lyon. Matt Ohl fired a 2-under par 33 to grab top honors. Teammate Caden Thurgood’s 39 was good for a top five finish. Okoboji still trails the Dutchmen by four points in the overall conference standings. The Siouxland girls played their tour meet in Milford and Okoboji fell nine strokes shy of MOC-Floyd Valley with a team score of 196. The Pioneers’ Kiley Wermersen earned medalist honors behind her round of 42 and Kristina Kaiser had a top-five finish with a 47.
