Spirit Lake softball leads in conference standings

A pair of wins last night put the spirit lake softball team firmly atop the lakes conference standings, with the Indians taking two from Lemars. In the first game with spirit lake playing the role of the road team on their home diamond, it was a 7th inning run that proved to be the difference, with the Indians winning 5-4. Caitlyn Roberts was 3-3 in the game with 2 rbi’s. Freshman Erin Dau and sophomore Bailee Newman were each 2 for 3 hitting. In the night cap, it was again a close contest, only this time Spirit Lake held off a 7th inning comeback attempt by Lemars to win 7-6. Freshman Maddie Richter and Senior Kayla Herrig were each 2 for 3. Kayla had an rbi and scored twice. Bailee Newman would be credited with the win in both games. She came in in relief in the first, and pitched a complete game in the second. Spirit Lake improves to 14-5, and 8-1 in conference games. They play Friday and Saturday at the Spencer tournament.
