Spirit Lake Park Boys Notch Third Lakes T&F Crown in Four Years, Girls Take Fifth

Spirit Lake Park has won it’s third Lakes Conference boys track and field championship in the last four years after taking the team title in Emmetsburg Monday at the conference meet. The Indians tallied 136 points and separated themselves from second place LeMars, who finished with 106. Storm Lake was third (91), Spencer fourth (90), Emmetsburg fifth (89), and Estherville-Lincoln Central seventh (61). SLP notched seven first-place finishes, led by three individual titles for Alec Baldwin. The senior first set the school record in the 800m (1:56.58), then went on to win the 1600m (4:43.44) and the 3200 (10:46.29). Kevin Martinson was the winner of the 400m hurdles (56.42), and also teamed with Aric Waltz, Casey Spaeth, and Kayne Feldick to take the gold in the 4x400m relay (3:33.23). The 4x800m relay team stood atop the medal stand, as well, which included Feldick, Paul Woizeschke, Kyle Anderson, and Keith Byers (8:30.56). Finally, Dalton Kelley was the conference champion in the discuss after a throw of 147’6”. To boost their overall score, Spirit Lake Park also had four second-place finishes and three thirds.

The girls Lakes Conference track and field title went to Western Christian with 156 team points. Spencer was second at 138.5, followed by LeMars in third (123), Estherville-Lincoln Central fourth (85), Spirit Lake Park fifth (82), and Emmetsburg sixth (69.5). Molly Hutchins was the lone conference champion for the Indians, finishing first in the shot put with a toss of 36’9”. Kendra Stokke brought in second-place points with her run in the 400m hurdles (69.91), and SLP also had three third-place finishers.
