The Spirit Lake-Okoboji boys’ tennis team put together a full team effort at Speier Park Thursday, winning the team portion of the district meet. SL-O racked up 20 points to automatically qualify for the team substate on May 19. Spencer, which finished third with 11 points, advances to the preliminary substate against second-place LeMars (12 points) on Saturday. The No. 1 doubles pairing of Brandon Stoll and Wes Bergquist didn’t lose a single set, going 4-0 on the day to qualify for the state individual tournament in Waterloo for the second consecutive year. Connor Rowley placed third in the singles bracket with a 3-1 record. The lone loss came to eventual singles champ Michael Gabhart of Spencer, who will return to the state meet for the second straight year. Rowley did beat teammate Trystan Wiedow in their final match, putting Wiedow in fourth-place overall.
