Spirit Lake flexed its baseball muscles in the Lakes Conference again Monday night with a 16-1 defeat in five innings over Cherokee. Mitch Peschon allowed the one run on two hits and struck out seven. He also went 2-for-2 at the plate. Brandon Stoll also went a perfect 2-for-2, sending one over the fences for his first home run of the season. The sophomore had three runs batted in. Senior Tyler Dean drove in five runs on 2-of-3 hitting. The Indians are now 8-1 overall and 3-0 in the league. They travel to MOC-Floyd Valley on Tuesday.
Also in the Lakes Conference, Spencer took down rival Emmetsburg by a 7-4 score. Dillon Schulz paced the Tigers with three hits and a RBI, while Tyler Greenough drove in a pair. Charlie Rettey earned the win as he struck out nine and allowed just three hits and three earned runs. Bobby Gappa had two hits and a RBI for the E-Hawks. Jake Carlson took the loss as he surrendered six runs on eight hits. Spencer is now 5-2 overall and 1-1 in league play, while Emmetsburg falls to 2-3 on the season and 0-2 in conference. The Okoboji baseball team made it three straight wins against Siouxland Conference opponents with a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley on Monday. Trailing 3-2 entering the seventh, the Pioneers scored two runs with two outs to claim the lead on the road. Zach Jones got the win, striking out seven and allowing six hits. He also drove in a run. Keaton Jones plated two of the team’s runs. The Pioneers are now 5-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play. They travel out-of-conference Tuesday to take on LeMars.
In other Siouxland action, George-Little Rock blanked Sioux Center 9-0 and MOC-Floyd Valley doubled up Sheldon, 10-5.
Over in the Cornbelt Conference, North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted swept through Harris-Lake Park to pick up two victories. Game one was a 4-0 contest as Nathan Kyle limited NSK/AR to just six hits, however, the HLP lineup could only muster three hits of their own. The nightcap saw the Wolves fall 19-4 in four innings. The Eagles scored 14 of those runs in the first inning with eleven hits, forcing Harris-Lake Park to use three pitchers in that inning alone. HLP drops to a winless 0-5.
