The Spirit Lake and Estherville-Lincoln Central boys teams went swing-for-swing to finish in a tie with 176 team totals, however, the meet would go to ELC on the fifth score tiebreaker. The Indians Matt Weeks defeated the Midgets Max Brashear in a playoff to grab medalist honors, as both shot rounds of 40. Scott Hummel carded at 44 for Spirit Lake, while Matt Heaton and Corey Potter both finished with 46’s.
Spirit Lake’s girls team grabbed a triangular victory, defeating Spencer and LeMars on the Bulldogs home course. The Indians tallied a 185, eight strokes better than the Tigers 193. LeMars had a 220. Maureen Owens was meet medalist with a 40. Leah Hilpipre pitched in with a 47, Emily Ayers had a 48, and Whitney Berkland a 50.
In the Siouxland Conference, the boys tour made its way to Rock Valley and once again MOC-Floyd Valley came away as the top team, shooting a 157. Mitch McDonaugh’s 38 for the Dutch earned him meet medalist honors. Rock Valley finished second with a 170, Okoboji was third at 172, and Sibley-Ocheyedan grabbed fifth with a 175. The Pioneers Tyler Ohl fired a 39 to place third. Okoboji also counted scores of 44 from James Halbur and Ben Demuth, and a 45 by Mike Luhrs. With the third place finish, the Pioneers leapfrogged the Generals in the conference standings and are now in second, nine points behind the Dutch.
The girls tour meet was hosted by Sibley-Ocheyedan, with MOC-Floyd Valley taking top honors with a 179 team score. Sioux Center and Okoboji were neck-and-neck for the second spot, but the Warriors edged the Pioneers by a stroke with a 187. The Generals tied for fourth at 217 with Sheldon. Hannah Jones, Kristina Kaiser, and Kiley Wermersen of Okoboji all registered 44’s as part of a four-way tie for second. The Pioneers also counted a 56 from Halee Morrow. Jessica Locker’s round of 43 for MOC-Floyd Valley was tops at the meet.
For the third consecutive year, the boys of Harris-Lake Park have won the Tin Cup Challenge against Sioux Central. The Wolves swept the singles matches Thursday at Silver Lake to finish the multi-event contest with 8.5 team points compared to just 0.5 for the Rebels. Nathan Kyle had the best round with a 41, followed by Austin Jacobsen’s 42, Jake Ihnen’s 45, Tanner Hiveley’s 46, Eli Ihnen’s 47, and Connor Gunderson’s 50. This marks the final year of the Tin Cup Challenge between HLP and Sioux Central.
The Lady Wolves also took the links against Sioux Central at Silver Lake, but in the end came up a stroke shy of the Rebels, falling 234-244. Samantha Brueggeman was the meet medalist with a 54 to lead HLP.
