Home course advantage proved worthy for the Spirit Lake boys golf team Saturday at the Great Lakes Invitational hosted by Brooks National. The Indians collected a team score of 324, edging out second place Okoboji (332) by eight shots. Estherville-Lincoln Central placed third (344), Spencer fourth (346), and Emmetsburg fifth (351). Scott Hummel of Spirit Lake shot a 76 for medalist honors, with Okoboji’s Tyler Ohl one shot off the pace at 77. The Indians also counted an 81 from Zach Skopec, an 82 by Tate Hanson, and a 85 on the card of Corey Potter. The Pioneers registered an 83 from James Halbur, an 85 by Wes Burgeson, and an 87 for Ben DeMuth.
The second flight of the Great Lakes Invite saw Harris-Lake Park tally a 366, taking top honors over Martin County West (370) in second and Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire (379). Cordell Weber of MCW carded a meet-low round of 74. Nathan Kyle paced the Wolves with an 83, followed by Ryan Gembler’s 84, a 97 by Eli Ihnen, and a 102 from Tanner Hiveley. GT/RA received a 92 from Blaze Alesch, a 93 by Dylan Smith, Ethan Peterson carded a 96, and Mitch Girres shot a 98.
