Spirit Lake, Okoboji Boys To Meet, Thursday

The Spirit Lake Boys basketball team got 16 points from Alec
Henrickson, and 13 points apiece from Paul Brown and Alex Pringnitz, en route
to a 47-30 home win over North Union in round
one of Class 2A District Playoffs, Tuesday night.

It was a back and forth game, with the lead changing hands
multiple times for about the first twenty minutes of game action, but the Indians
stretched a one point halftime lead to five, heading into the final quarter,
and then outscored North Union, 16-4, in the
fourth.

Loenser talks about how they pulled away

That’s Spirit Lake Coach Nate Loenser, whose team will be
home, Thursday, against Okoboji.

The Pioneers beat Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, 58-55, in Hartley, as they
were able to withstand a 26 point performance from the Hawks’ Blake Simons, who
scored all 13 HMS points in the first quarter, and 22 of his team’s 24 first
half points.  Here’s Okoboji Coach Ryan
Paulsen.

Paulsen says Simons is really good

The Hawks led by four after the first two quarters and clung to a 1 point lead
at the end of the third. A couple of critical turnovers by H-M-S led to the
Pioneers taking the lead near the end of the game. The Hawks had a chance to tie
at the end of regulation but couldn’t get a three point shot to fall. Okoboji
senior Dalton Syverson had 26 points with 15 of those coming in the second half.
Senior Weston Burgeson had 14 points for Okoboji.

HMS finishes their season at 8-14. The loss closes out the careers of seniors
Cade Harvey and Pierce Adams.

You can hear Thursday’s matchup on KUOO, with coverage
underway at 6:45.

The Emmetsburg boys saw their season come to an end, last
night, as they fell on the road to Sioux Central, 43-32.  Jake Jackson led the E-Hawks with 13.  Sioux Central plays at Sheldon, Thursday.  The winner of that game will face the Okoboji-Spirit Lake winner next Tuesday.

In Class 1A Boys Districts, Sibley-Ocheydan knocked off Clay
Central-Everly, 63-31.
