Comments from Coach Dan Taylor:

Almost every
year our matches against Fairmont are very close.  Last year we pulled out a 5-4 win at home,
and this year playing the Minnesota format we again pulled out a 1 match
victory.  The Minnesota format is quite
different than what we are used to, especially because the varsity meet
involves 10 different players instead of 6, and all the players play only
singles or doubles.  But I knew we would
compete well even though we aren’t used to playing that format, because we have
a very deep team with several JV players who are very solid.  Brandon played a great match once again and
won in straight sets at #1 singles.  CJ
was in quite a battle at #2 singles.  The
two were very evenly match with lots of very long points.  He lost the first set in a close tiebreaker,
but he rebounded well and won the second set, sending the match into a deciding
3rd set.  The third set went
back and forth, but his talented opponent played some good points at the very
end and just edged out CJ, who played some of the best tennis I have ever seen
him play.  Hunter and Cody played hard at
#3&4, but their players were very steady and consistent, and won mostly by
just not beating themselves.  But even
though we went 1-3 in singles, I knew we would have a strong doubles
performance, and we did end up sweeping all three matches, and therefore we won
the meet.  Andrew & Trystan bounced
back nicely after a loss yesterday with a commanding victory at #1, and our
#2&3 teams played great, both winning in straight sets.
