In baseball action, Spirit Lake stayed undefeated with a 15-1 win in six innings over defending Lakes Conference champion Western Christian yesterday. Mitch Peschon surrendered one hit and one unearned run as the winning pitcher. The senior also went 4-for-4 at the plate. Brandon Stoll was also a perfect 3-for-3 in the Spirit Lake lineup. The Indians, who are now 4-0 overall and 1-0 in league play, will travel out of conference this evening to battle Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on the Hawks home diamond. Okoboji played its best baseball of the young season Wednesday to grab its first Siouxland Conference win, beating Sheldon 4-2 in Milford. The Pioneers received a solid pitching effort from Dalton Syverson, who scattered four hits, allowed one run and struck out four. Brian Dubois came in for the save and also struck out four. Zach Jones led the offensive attack with a 2-for-3 effort and two runs scored. Michael Peterson and Weston Berguson each recorded an RBI. Okoboji, now 2-2 overall, will travel to Emmetsburg on Thursday to battle the E-Hawks out-of-conference, a game that can be heard live on Y100 with the pregame starting at 7:20pm.
Harris-Lake Park is still searching for its first win after a 10-3 setback to Sioux Central last night in Lake Park. The Wolves issued five walks in the top of the first, leading to seven early Rebels runs. HLP responded with a three-spot in the bottom half, but could not get any closer. Starting pitcher Ryan Mann took the loss for Harris-Lake Park, which is now 0-3 on the year.
Also in the Cornbelt Conference, Clay Central-Everly notched a pair of wins with a doubleheader sweep of West Bend-Mallard, taking game one 5-0 and then the nightcap by a 9-3 margin.
In the War Eagle Conference, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn won a nail-biter to Hinton by a 6-5 decision. Heath Nagle dropped down a successful suicide squeeze bunt to plate Cody Leng for the winning run in the 7th inning. Matt Queck pitched a complete game to get the win.
