One year after blowing a double-digit halftime lead at Jackson County Central, the Spirit Lake boys basketball team refused to make the same mistake twice. Leading 34-21 through two quarters, the Indians outscored the Huskies by 15 in the second half to wrap up a 66-38 home win. Sawyer Harms powered home eleven field goals for a career-high 26 points and Wes Bergquist added nine points. Eight others found their way into the scoring column for the 2-0 Indians. Taylor Christopher hit two 3-pointers and finished with a team-high eight points for the Huskies, who start the season 0-1. JCC is back home Monday night to battle Granada-Huntley-East Chain. Spirit Lake takes the floor again Tuesday with their conference opener against Cherokee in Spirit Lake, a game that will be broadcast on KUOO Campus Radio.

In other weekend boys basketball games, South O’Brien topped Sheldon by ten, 49-39. Western Christian outlasted Unity Christian in a high-scoring game, 72-66. North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted took a loss to North Iowa, 49-36.
Up in Minnesota, Granada-Huntley-East Chain defeated Martin County West, 40-32, and Luverne upended Southwest Star Concept, 58-49.
