Spirit Lake, Harris-Lake Park Remain Perfect (Girls Basketball RoundUp)

The first-place Spirit Lake girls basketball team remained on top of the Lakes Conference standings with a lopsided 67-20 rout of Storm Lake last night. The Indians hit seven first half three-pointers and would finish 9-of-19 from beyond the arc. Defensively, Spirit Lake collected 25 steals and forced the Tornadoes into 36 turnovers. KJ Veldman dropped in 21 points and Cara Vale tallied ten points. Next up for the 3-0 Indians is a home game Friday against Cherokee, which can be heard live on KUOO Campus Radio.

Harris-Lake Park is now 4-0 in the Cornbelt Conference following Monday night’s 58-43 decision over Clay Central-Everly. Anna Brandt poured in a game-high 23 points and Mariah Gath hit four three-pointers on the night, but head coach Jenni Spooner says it was the defense in a 21-6 second quarter that provided the difference. The Lady Wolves will take on undefeated and sixth-ranked North Sentral Kossuth on Friday.
