A fourth consecutive trip to the girls’ state tournament resulted in another return trip home empty handed for the girls of Spirit Lake golf. The Indians finished seventh in the Class 3A meet at River Valley Golf Club in Adel with a two-day team total of 785. Spirit Lake finished 82 shots back of the team champions from Charles City. Individually, senior Maureen Owens concluded her fantastic high school career tied for tenth place overall, shooting a final round 85 to finish at 33-over-par 177. Fellow senior Emily Ayers wound up 28th with a 190 total, while senior Leah Hilpipre carded a 205. Junior Whitney Berkland wound up with a 215 to cap the counted scores. Hannah Weidemeier notched a 221 and Amanda Williams a 243.
In Class 2A, senior Megan Myers of Emmetsburg ended her career at the state meet tied for 26th overall. She registered a 188 two-day total at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny.
