Spirit Lake Girls, Boys Win at Cherokee

The Spirit Lake High School Girls’ Basketball Team
intensified its pressure defense in the second quarter, last night, and
overcame a 10 point deficit to beat Cherokee, 57-42.

 

The Lady Indians got 20
points from Allissa Christoffer, 14 from K.J. Veldman, and 12 from Emma Dau, as
Spirit Lake improved to 6-1.  

 

The
Hinton girls’ basketball team got off to a quick start and never looked back in
a 59-28 win at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on Tuesday night. Lauren Hedlund and
Breana Bollmeyer each had 10 for the Blackhawks while Katie Mills led the way
for HMS with 13.

 

The Spencer Girls beat Emmetsburg, 42-20.  Emmetsburg led 11 – 9  after the first
quarter, but would only score 9 points the rest of the way.  Spencer was
led by Kirstin Martindale and Taylor Anderson with 10 points.  Emmetsburg
got 11 points from Ashton Connelly.

 

Estherville-Lincoln Central trounced Storm Lake,
86-17.  Clay Central-Everly downed North Union, 38-34. 
Gehlen Catholic beat South O’Brien, 58 42, and Sibley-Ocheyday knocked
off West Lyon, 62-45.

Okoboji girls topped Rock
Valley, 60-42, while the
Okoboji boys fell 67-50.  Here’s Pioneers

The Spirit
Lake boys snapped a two
game losing streak with a 57-28 win over Cherokee.

 

Loenser says this was a needed win

 

That’s Indians’ Coach Nate Loenser, whose team got 16
points from Paul Brown and 13 points from Tyler Alger in the win.

 

Spencer beat Emmetsburg, 60-39, behind 19 points
from Tanner Morris and 17 from Matthew Klemme. 

 

Hinton
took advantage of Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn turnovers and raced past the Hawks
62-39 in Hartley. The Hawks had 23 turnovers in the game compared to just 8 for
the Blackhawks.

 

Elsewhere, West Lyon
knocked off Sibley-Ocheydan, 69-35. 
Gehlen Catholic beat South O’Brien, 54-43, and North
Union topped Clay Central Everly, 69-31.  Storm Lake downed Estherville-Lincoln Central, 74-53.
