Spirit Lake, ELC Split Baseball-Softball Doubleheader




Behind a two-hitter from junior Brandon Stoll, the Spirit Lake
baseball team picked up its third Lakes Conference victory, blanking
Estherville-Lincoln Central by a 12-0 final. With the bats, the Indians
collected thirteen hits on their way to a dozen runs. Spirit
Lake improves to 7-5
overall and 3-2 in the league. The Indians open play next week with a home
contest against Storm
Lake. The Midgets fall to
4-8 this year and 1-3 in the Lakes, with a home game Monday against undefeated
LeMars.

Ninth-ranked Estherville-Lincoln Central had their way with Spirit Lake
in a Lakes Conference softball matchup Friday night. The Midgets scored eleven
runs on eleven hits in taking a ten-run victory in five innings. Kendall Bosch
struck out eleven batters and allowed just five hits for the Midgets, who also
got three-RBI nights from Emily Kirchner and Taylor Lago. Amanda Bueltel drove
in Carly Ites for the Indians lone run. Cara Vale took the loss despite four
strikeouts. Spirit
Lake owns a record of 7-9
overall and 1-5 in the conference. ELC is in the midst of a five-game winning
streak, boasts a perfect 5-0 record in the league, and is 10-3 overall. Both
teams will participate Saturday in the KUOO/Q102 Spirit Lake Softball
Tournament.

For the third straight game, second in Siouxland Conference
play, Okoboji came out on the losing of a softball matchup Friday, dropping a
7-1 home game against MOC-Floyd
Valley. Mikkinzie
Peschong took the loss in the circle, allowing three earned runs on five hits
with ten strikeouts. The senior also tallied the lone RBI of the game on one of
four hits for the Pioneers. Okoboji drops to 5-7 overall and 2-3 in league
games. They will also participate in the KUOO/Q102 Spirit Lake Softball
Tournament on Saturday.

In other action on Friday, the Spencer baseball team was
shutout in a 12-0 setback in six innings against Lakes Conference front-runner
LeMars. The Tigers committed five errors as the Bulldogs scored in every inning
to improve to 8-0. Spencer falls to 2-2 in the league and 6-4 overall.

The Tigers softball squad picked up a pair of wins at the
LeMars Tournament on Friday. Spencer got by Sioux City West, 7-4, before defeating Hinton
by a 10-0 margin in five innings. Taylor Anderson and Madi Rost earned the
pitching victories, which puts Spencer at 7-5 this summer, with more games
slated for Saturday.

Emmetsburg tallied its second win in Lakes Conference
baseball play, defeating Cherokee by a run Friday, 4-3. The E-Hawks outhit the
Braves 7-4 to improve to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in conference matchups. Emmetsburg
will host its own tournament on Saturday, which does include a game against
Okoboji.

In the War Eagle Conference, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn lost an 8-3 softball matchup with Remsen Union on Friday. Kathryn Ahlers was the losing pitcher after lasting just 2 2/3 innings and allowing seven runs. Four players enjoyed multi-hit nights for HMS, which falls to 3-6 overall and 2-6 in the league. The Hawks will compete Saturday in the Emmetsburg Tournament.
