The standard 32-minute regulation basketball game was not enough Tuesday night as the Spirit Lake Indians went to overtime to secure their first win of the year, defeating rival Spencer 69-60. Spirit Lake jumped out early and took a double-digit halftime lead to the locker. Spencer would rally back and with five-second remaining, senior Alex Hyde drained a deep three from the top of the key to force OT tied at 55. In the extra session, the Indians scored the first six points and held on for the win, the first under new head coach Nate Loenser.
Mitch Peschon and Paul Brown each registered 16 points to pace the Indians, while Tayler Acton scored a dozen points and hauled in ten rebounds. Spencer received a game-high 17 points from Hyde, while also getting eleven each from Austin Hansen and Collin Edwards. The Tigers fall to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the Lakes Conference. The Indians are 1-2 on the year and 1-0 in league play with a contest against LeMars coming up on Friday. That can be heard live on KUOO Campus Radio and online at www.network1sports.com.
Over at West Lyon the Okoboji Pioneers were outmanned in a 79-49 loss within the Siouxland Conference. Bryson McCabe tallied 16 points to lead the scoring for Okoboji, which will welcome Sheldon to Milford on Friday.
Graettinger-Terril squared off with Clay Central-Everly in the Cornbelt Conference and the Mavericks rolled to a 65-38 victory. Jared Schloerman had a game-high 19 points for CCE. The Knights got 18 points from Beau Craig.
