Spirit Lake baseball kept their hopes for a Lakes Conference title alive Monday with a 12-6 win over Spencer. Mitch Peschon sent one of his three hits over the fence as part of a four RBI night. Brandon Stoll also had three hits and drove in a pair of runs and Tyler Dean went 3-for-5 with three runs batted in. The senior also limited the Tigers to four hits and struck out seven to get the win. Tayler Tatman took the loss, while Blake Seier had a hit and an RBI to pace the offense. Spencer falls to 6-4 in conference play and 11-8 overall. Spirit Lake improves to 7-2 in the league and 17-5 on the season.
Clay Central-Everly kept their hopes alive in the Cornbelt Conference with a doubleheader sweep over Harris-Lake Park on Monday. Game one saw the Mavericks score a dozen runs in the final four innings to pull away for a 15-7 victory. Caleb Mackey hit a two-run homer as part of a three run first. HLP actually led 5-3 until the fourth inning. Ryan Mann took the loss, while Mitch Fahnlander got the win. The nightcap ended with CCE taking a 4-0 win behind a one-hitter from senior Caleb Batschelet. The righty also struck out nine. Mackey went 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored, while Evan McCarty had two hits, a run scored, and one driven in. Trevor Kunzman also plated a run on two hits. Jake Ihnen had the lone hit, a double, for the Wolves. The senior also took the loss despite seven strikeouts. Eighth-ranked Clay Central-Everly is 9-3 in the Cornbelt and 18-6 overall. Harris-Lake Park drops to 4-14 on the year and 2-8 in conference.
In the Siouxland Conference, West Lyon beat Sibley-Ocheyedan by a 13-3 final.
