Spirit Lake won a baseball slugfest against LeMars Friday night, going on the road to win 17-12 in Lakes Conference play. The Indians began with a 12-run first inning. Tyler Dean went 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Mitch Peschon also enjoyed a good night offensively, with three hits, five runs driven in, three scored and his first home run of the season. Spirit Lake is schedule to participate in the North Iowa tournament today.
Harris-Lake Park dropped a doubleheader with Twin River Valley, falling by scores of 3-1 and 11-1 in five innings. The Wolves are now 1-4 in the Cornbelt Conference. Other results included Western Christian over Emmetsburg 6-0 and Sheldon defeating Sibley-Ocheyedan 9-5
In softball, Okoboji defeated MOC-Floyd Valley in nine innings by a 4-3 final. Harris-Lake Park swept a doubleheader with Twin River Valley, giving the Lady Wolves four straight wins. Noreen Morrow and Anna Brandt led the way in an 8-1 game one victory. Each had three hits, and Morrow notched five RBI. Game two was a 12-7 final, with Lydia Brandt going 3-for-4 with a home run.
Second-ranked Emmetsburg took down Western Christian by a 3-0 final behind a one-hitter from Maddison Woodruff. She struck out eleven and faced just one batter above the minimum. Woodruff also was 3-for-3 at the plate.
