Spirit Lake Advances in Class 3A (Girls Postseason Basketball Roundup)

Spirit Lake used a very strong defensive effort to pull away from Algona, claiming a 58-31 victory over the Bulldogs in the opening round of the Girls Class 3A Regional on Wednesday. The Indians led by ten in the second quarter on their home floor before Algona pulled within five at the half. The Indians defense took over, forcing multiple Algona turnovers and holding the Bulldogs to ten total points in the half. KJ Veldman led all scorers with 32 points, most coming off Algona turnovers. The junior went 11-of-14 at the free throw line, and grabbed nine rebounds and five steals. Cara Vale pitched in at both ends with six points and six steals. Paige Yi and Tangy Wiseman both had seven points for Algona, whose season ends at 14-8. Spirit Lake improves to 17-5 and moves on to Saturday night’s second round contest in Algona against Clear Lake. Coverage begins at 6:45pm Saturday evening on KUOO Campus Radio and at www.network1sports.com.
