Four more legendary faces will be added to the Jackson Speedway Hall of Fame this weekend. Headlining the list is four-time track champion Matt Spies, who raced for better than a decade at the track located 20 miles north of his Spirit Lake home. Spies began driving in 1991 and didn’t quit until 2002. Also being inducted into the Hall of Fame is Larry Smith, a former driver from the 1950s and 1960s, former track worker Mike Thurmer, and Joel Taylor, who will enter posthumously, as the former driver from Milford lost his life at the track in June 1980. The ceremony will be conducted at 4pm in the Anderson Building off Turn 4. To hear more from Hall of Famer Matt Spies, check out sportscast on the SportsPage of ExploreOkoboji.com.
