The Spencer boys tennis team beat Spirit Lake-Okoboji, 6-1,
yesterday. Jordan Plueger, Alex Kaldahl,
Brady Plueger, Jack o’Hara, and Joe Sherbon all got singles wins for the
Tigers. Brandon Stoll picked up a win for
the Indians. Here’ a comment from Spirit Lake-Okoboji Coach Dan Taylor:
“I can’t
remember a dual meet our team has had the last several years where the singles
matches were all so closely contested.
Two of the six matches went to tiebreakers, and the other four matches
were decided by just two games. So
obviously, the meet could have gone either way, but Spencer was just a little
bit better on this particular occasion.
In all four of the matches we lost 8-10, all of our guys got themselves
into holes. They all fought hard to try
and dig out of them, but the Spencer players were able to hold on to all of
them. Brandon had a great win at #1 –
his first 6 or 7 games he played about as well as I have ever seen him play. Gabhart came back, but Brandon played a great
tiebreak. Ryley, like most of his
teammates, nearly climbed out of a hole, and his was a 3-8 deficit, so I’m
proud of how he, and everyone on the team, battled today. I also saw some good doubles play – even
though we didn’t finish the last 2 matches, we were ahead and playing very
well. So hopefully next time we see the
Tigers we will be able to flip at least a couple of those close singles matches
and come away with a win.”
The Spirit Lake Okoboji Girls Tennis team topped
Spencer. Rachel Westergaard, Olivia
Rohlk, Natalie Delaney, Heather Sorensen, and Hannah Schoning all get singles
wins for the Indians. Spirit
Lake-Okoboji’s top three doubles teams also won.
