The Spencer Tigers got the best of the boys and girls soccer teams from Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji on Monday. The boys from SLP-O were hoping to celebrate an outright championship and a sweep of their rival for the first time ever; however, an emotional soccer match would go into double-overtime before the Tigers escaped with a 3-2 win in Lake Park. Zubeen Azari scored twice, handing Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji a 2-1 advantage. Then Spencer got a breakaway goal in the last three minutes of regulation to pull even, and again in the second extra session for the win. SLP-O can still win the Lakes Conference title outright, depending on the result of Thursday’s match between Storm Lake and Unity Christian.
On the girls side, it was the Tigers taking a 3-0 shutout win over SLP-O down in Spencer.
