Spencer Softball Stops Emmetsburg

 


A fast start and a great ending helped propel the
Spencer softball team to an 8 – 4 victory over Emmetsburg on Tuesday night.  Spencer would score 3 runs in the 1st inning and 4 runs in the 7th inning to
earn their 2nd conference victory.  Emmetsburg would score 1 run in the 1st and
1 run in the 2nd to make it a 3 – 2 score.  Spencer would then score 1 run in
the 5th only to have Emmetsburg come back in the bottom of the inning to score 2
and tie it up at 4.  The tigers would score 4 runs in the 7th on 5 hits and send
8 batters to the plate.  The E’hawks did get a couple baserunners on in the
bottom of the 7th only for them to hit in an inning ending double play and end
the threat.
 
Spencer had 8 hits on 14 hits and were led
offensivley by Karis Rhode 2 – 5, 2 RBI’s, Piper Swanson 3 – 4, 2 RBI’s and Anna
Glover 2 – 2, 2 RBI’s.  Emmetsburg had 4 runs on 6 hits and were led by Tegan
Olson 2 – 4 2 RBI’s and Alexa Naig 2 – 4 with an RBI.  The winning pitcher was
Madi Rost as she went 7 innings giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits while
striking out 3 and walking 1.  The losing pitcher was Ashton Connley going 7
innings giving up 8 runs (7 earned) on 14 hits while striking out 4 and walking

Emmetsburg falls to 5 – 6, 1 – 5 and will be at
Spirit Lake Wednesday on KUOO.  Spencer improves to 6 – 7, 2 – 3 and will host
Storm Lake.
