In their first ever trip to the Class 3A state wrestling duals, the Spencer Tigers ran into powerhouse in the opening round, falling 57-18 to Iowa City West in Cedar Rapids. The Trojans won the first eight matches, six by pin fall, to grab a 44-0 lead. Spencer, though, would go on to grab victories in four of the last six. Seniors Tyler Schaefer (152), Ben Roos (171), Kris Rohde (215) and Ryan Dodge (285) all scored late wins to get the Tigers on the scoreboard. They finish with a school-record 22 dual wins and just three setbacks. Iowa City West went on to win the state title in 3A, defeating Bettendorf, 33-19. In Class 2A, it was Davenport Assumption taking the top spot with a 56-15 win over Creston/Orient-Macksburg, and undefeated Logan-Magnolia finished out a 32-0 season with a narrow 28-27 victory over Don Bosco, Gilbertville for the Class 1A title.
