SLP’s Baldwin to Run at Northwestern

Alec Baldwin of Spirit Lake has signed a letter of intent to continue his cross country and track careers at Northwestern College in Orange City, IA, next year.

Baldwin is a 6’0” distance runner who lettered six times for the Spirit Lake Park cross country and track & field teams. A four-time state qualifier in cross country, he won the Class 2a individual state championship as a senior in 2010, after finishing second in 2009 and third in 2008. Baldwin led his team to back-to-back state championships in 2008 and 2009, as well as a second-place finish last year.

A two-year letter winner in track and field, Baldwin was part of an Indians team that won the 2010 district championship. He also holds school records in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m. Baldwin finished fifth at state in the 3200m, sixth in the 1600m, and eighth in the 800m, while also anchoring the sixth-place distance medley.

An honor roll student, Baldwin plans to major in biology/ecology at Northwestern.
