The 102nd Drake Relays kicked off Thursday on the blue track in Des Moines and history was made in the high school division. Ottumwa High School’s Kevin Lewis ran the 3200m in 9:05.58 to break a state record that had stood since 1973. In that same event, Spirit Lake Park senior Alec Baldwin ran a time of 9:48.18 to finish 19th. There will be four more events on Friday with Lakes area athletes, beginning with Okoboji’s Zach Jones running the 110m hurdles just after 8:00am this morning. SLP’s Dalton Kelly will throw the discuss around 9:00am, followed by the SLP sprint medley relay team at 10:40am.
