SLP With Strong Effort at BVU Elite Meet (Track and Field RoundUp)

The track and field teams of Spirit Lake Park competed in the Buena Vista University Elite Indoor Meet over the weekend and registered an impressive medal haul, including eight first place finishes. The SLP girls crossed the tape first in four events. Taylor Sieperda finished a top the medal stand in with her time of 27.71 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Dondi Schmidt ran the 1500-meters 5:17.96 to grab top honors. The 4×400 relay team of Caitlin Eckerman, Emma Dau, Kendra Stokke, and Sieperda also set a new school indoor record with a time of 4:24.69 for first place. Jenna McCoy, Stokke, Miranda Brueggeman, and Kaela Delperdang also combined for a 43.30 second time in the shuttle hurdle relay to top the competition. The Indians also secured four second-place finishes and two thirds.

As for the Spirit Lake Park boys, they, too, garnered four overall champions. Luke Kabele set an indoor school record with a long jump of 20’9″, and Keith Byers took top honors in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:30.30. On the relay side of the competition, Kabele, Aric Waltz, Bryson McCabe, and Kevin Martinson won the 4×200 race in 1:36.51. Kabele, Waltz, McCabe, and Byers all combined for the fastest time in the 4×400 relay, ending in 3:40.01. SLP tallied an additional second-place finish and two more thirds.
